Making connections

The Work and Skills Interchange offers advice and makes connections for people seeking work, or trying to stay in work. The focus is on supporting people who have significant health conditions and are economically inactive, but this may include people who face other disadvantages in the labour market – such as caring responsibilities, their age, low skills or long-term worklessness.

Employers play a vital role in creating good work opportunities and reducing current and future economic inactivity.  With the potential of 100% funding, the interchange supports employers to build their capacity to attract, hire, and retain people, and create inclusive job opportunities.

Launched in March 2026, The Work and Skills Interchange has been developed by York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority, as part of a programme called the Get Britain Working Economic Inactivity Trailblazer, supported by funding from the Department for Work and Pensions.

More about the Combined Authority

The Work and Skills Interchange is led by York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority.

A Combined Authority is where a group of councils work together across a larger area. The York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority has been created by the City of York Council and North Yorkshire Council.

The York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority is a legally recognised, single body. Our role is to use some of the money and powers, that have been held by central government, and work with local leaders and communities to invest in ways that will help to make York and North Yorkshire a better place for you to live, work and do business.
