Overview

Delivered by the Volunteer Centre at York CVS, the Diverse Volunteering Project provides targeted 1:1 casework and accessible community drop-in sessions to support refugees, asylum seekers, and recent migrants in York who need a NI number. The project addresses practical and confidence barriers—such as language skills, application processes, and local integration—to help economically inactive participants gain UK volunteering experience, improve wellbeing, and build pathways toward employability.

Key elements include:
Target Cohort: Economically inactive refugees, asylum seekers, and migrants in York.

Delivery Model: Low-pressure drop-ins in familiar community settings and tailored 1:1 volunteer matching.

Participant Support: Approx. 20 Guided Learning Hours (GLH) of structured support per person.

Key Outcomes: Increased confidence, conversational English practice, active volunteering placements, and connection to mainstream local services.
