Internships
Thought about recruiting an Intern but not sure what's involved?
They can be brilliant way of injecting some talent into the business for a limited time. It works as a partnership between you the employer, the student, and finally the University, but if you’re new to it, it can look a bit confusing at first.
An internship in the UK is a temporary work placement, lasting from two weeks to 12 months, designed to provide students, graduates, or career-changers with practical industry experience. They involve real work, projects, and networking, often acting as a bridge to employment.
When is the best time to recruit?
The summer holidays are a great time as it doesn’t interfere with the students studies. But any time is good and the Universities will be more than happy to help you recruit the right person, and at the right time.
Worried about employment rights?
Its a good idea to look at this before you make the leap – here is the latest government guidance – https://www.gov.uk/employment-rights-for-interns
Sometimes there is also some funding attached for employer’s to help with salaries etc. It needn’t be complicated. There are two Universities in our region that happily help you with Internships, across various disciplines.
