A supported internship is a pre-employment study programme for young people with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) who are ready to move into the world of work.

It’s a work-based study programme for a young person with an Education, Health & Care Plan (EHCP).

Students are on roll with a provider, but they are 80% on work placement with an employer, on 3 rotations throughout the academic year to learn different parts of the job. They are supported by a full time Job Coach and Tutor at work. so there’s not as much pressure on the employer/employees to provide that support.

Are you an employer?

A Supported Internship is a full-time study programme, so there is no salary cost.

A Job Coach will also be available to provide tailored support to both the Supported Intern and the employer. They support the employer to offer meaningful placements and make adaptations, and the Supported Intern to learn and develop in those placements.

Some of the benefits to your business are:

  • Increased capacity to support your workload.
  • Expanding your pool of suitable applicants for future job roles.
  • Enhancing your reputation as an inclusive and socially responsible employer.
  • Improving employee morale and retention.
  • Stimulating innovation and creativity by incorporating diverse skills, perspectives and lived-experience.

Supported Internships give young people an opportunity to take their first steps into the workforce, develop workplace skills, build confidence, earn qualifications, and use these to secure paid employment.
